Shutdown Instructions

Emergency Water Heater Shutdown - Only 3 Easy Steps

If you have NO HOT WATER, WATER LEAKING, or SMELL GAS,

 

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE 3 EASY STEPS

 

1) GAS WATER HEATERS - TURN OFF THE GAS: 

  • Shut off the gas valve near your water heater or at the gas meter valve outside.

 

 

2) ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS - TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC: 

  • Shut off the electric breaker marked "water heater." This panel box may be located in or outside of your home; be careful that the breaker may not be labeled or labeled wrong.

              

 

3) ALL WATER HEATERS - TURN OFF THE WATER: 

  • Turn off the water valve, usually located above your water heater.

  • Placing a washcloth over the handle makes it easier to turn righty to off, and lefty to on.
