How does it work?

Heat pumps aren’t a new technology. You already have one in your home—your refrigerator. Heat pump electric water heaters work like refrigerators in reverse—they extract heat from the surrounding air and transfer it to water in the tank—even in colder climates. Since they move existing heat instead of generating new heat, an HPWH is three times more efficient than a conventional electric water heaters.
